When done right, Carrot Cake can be one of the dreamiest, most delectable dessert options on the menu. Unfortunately, it's hard to do vegan carrot cake well, but I do have to credit The Newsroom Cafe for trying!
The vegan carrot cake at The Newsroom Cafe on Robertson is hearty, dense, and heated to make it seem a little more special (which works.) The flavor is lovely enough, but the consistency is way more muffin than it is cake. Finally, the icing--(sigh) the icing. This is where vegan loses me. I LOVE the traditional cream cheese frosting, so the thin layer of vegan who-knows-what on top of my dessert slab did not do the trick for me. In the vegan world, I'm sure it ranks up there, but overall, 2.5 cherries the Newsroom's carrot cake.~
I can tell just from the photo that you are right on w/ this review! Where on earth did all the beautiful frosting disappear to?? I would cry. I love cc frosting far too much to stand for this!!

Unfortunately I cannot stand recipes that have been altered from their original just to satisfy the diet of others. I will eat the highest calorie foods as long as they are made to provide the nutrients you need along with it satisfying your taste buds.
